Amanda Peters

Canadian writer of Mi'kmaq and settler ancestry, born and based in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. She came to fiction later in life, studying at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, where she earned an MFA in creative writing. Her first novel, The Berry Pickers (2023), follows a Mi'kmaq family of migrant blueberry pickers in Maine after a four-year-old girl vanishes; it won the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and the Barnes & Noble Discover Prize. Her story collection Waiting for the Long Night Moon appeared in 2024.
