Jamaican novelist, born in Kingston in 1970 to two police officers and now a professor of English at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. His first novel, John Crow's Devil, was rejected close to eighty times before publication in 2005; The Book of Night Women followed in 2009. A Brief History of Seven Killings, a polyphonic novel built around the 1976 attempt on Bob Marley's life, won the Booker Prize in 2015, making him the first Jamaican author to receive it. He then turned to African mythology with the Dark Star trilogy, beginning with Black Leopard, Red Wolf (2019).
