American novelist, born in Illinois and long a bookseller and editor; she was the founding editor of the Barnes & Noble Teen Blog and has written about books for years. Her debut, The Hazel Wood (2018), about a girl whose grandmother wrote a cult collection of cruel fairy tales, was a New York Times bestseller and grew into a series with The Night Country and the companion volume Tales from the Hinterland. Our Crooked Hearts (2022) moved her dark, fairy-tale-inflected suspense into the suburbs and a story of mothers and witchcraft.
